Ghost With Two Hearts follows Adrian, a talented software engineer who takes a leave of absence from work and travels to Japan with his grandfather's samurai sword to find its rightful heir. In Japan, he discovers a society that is vastly different from the United States, but he also encounters a mischievous kami (ghost) named Emiko who lives in the attic of his rented house. When Adrian's samurai sword disappears, he begins to suspect that Emiko may be involved, but she claims to have taken the sword to protect him. As Adrian tries to return the sword to its rightful owner, he finds himself in danger from the captain's vengeful daughter and a rogue kami. Throughout the book, Adrian prays to the goddess Inari for help and becomes increasingly drawn to Emiko, despite her warnings that they can never be together.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

North Dakota was home to Connie Nelson for most of her career in marketing and communications. After retiring in 2018 and moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico, she became active in local writing and publishing circles, which led to writing her first book, Cavalier—The Story of an Unsolved Murder in a Small Town, a firsthand account of a traumatic 1986 incident.
Nearly 35 years later, the COVID pandemic provided the time to research and participate in online workshops to hone her writing and publishing skills, so as the world stood still for a couple of years, Connie utilized her downtime to write this story resulting in an intimate and oftentimes startling portrait of America's flawed justice system, and how it affects everyday people.
The famous author and philosopher, Maya Angelou once said, “There’s no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you.”
That’s exactly how it felt, like I had an untold story inside of me, and I needed to talk about it.

Tommy McNaul is an FBI agent with twenty-five years of service, a firm sense of law and order, a beautiful Irish wife, and a passion for fine art. He risks them all one snowy night when he and his partner, Kate Bacon, lead a sting operation in Boston. Their mission is to recover Vermeer's “The Concert,” stolen from the Isabella Gardner Stewart Museum in 1995.

The sting erupts in a blaze of gunfire, and Tom's life spins out of control. Forced into retirement from the FBI, and pursued by elements of the Boston mob, Tom seeks refuge in his native homeland of New Mexico. He teams up with his estranged older brother, Willie, an ex-marine turned private detective living in Santa Fe.

Tom and Willie plan to pursue local cases of art forgery and theft, but the murder of a young gallery worker hurls them into the dark, violent world of international art crime. Tom finds himself increasingly torn. Is he still a man of law and order, or does he belong in the darker world of justice and vengeance?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’m a fourth-generation New Mexican, but I grew up on naval air stations ranging from colonial French Morocco to Guam. My father was an aerologist in the U.S. Navy, and we moved every year or two. I’ve lived for a year or more in at least fifteen places and enjoyed them all.

Both of my parents were science majors, and I developed an early affection for the science fiction of Robert A. Heinlein and others. My first sci-fi book was Heinlein’s “Have Space Suit Will Travel”. Many years later I found that this was also the first sci-fi book read by George R. R. Martin, but I’m sure that’s coincidental.

Astronomy was my first career plan, but when my father retired from the navy, we moved to Connecticut. United Aircraft was just four miles away, and a few years later . I graduated from M.I.T. with a degree in aeronautical engineering.

After four years in the Air Force serving as a flight test engineer (Edwards AFB, California), I entered graduate school and earned my PhD in Atmospheric Science. I became a professor of tropical meteorology and served as a professor for thirty years, primarily at Penn State. For six years I served as the department head, but I prefer science to management, so I happily returned to the academic trenches. Hurricanes and thunderstorms were my specialties, though I also researched the dynamics of less spectacular weather systems.

I retired a bit early to pursue my writing interests, and I was anxious to try detective fiction. To borrow a line from the late folk singer, Patrick Sky: “Reality is bad enough, why should I tell the truth?”.

My wife, Kathleen Frank, is a famous painter of western landscapes, and we decided to return to my ancestral homeland of New Mexico. We now live in Santa Fe with a couple of corgis and ready access to the best enchiladas in the west.

Soleil and Flarence are immortal Genies who can bend the fundamental forces of the universe through willpower alone. For centuries, they have considered themselves the most formidable beings in the world, but some newcomers just might give them a run for their money.
Magic has always been limited to living things. Throughout his life, Soleil has never come across an object with supernatural capabilities. Now, a human has somehow constructed guns with the ability to fire spells.

Genies are normally resistant to offensive magic, but Soleil knows from experience that the enchanted revolvers harm all creatures equally. Resurrection is one of the few limitations to a Genie’s abilities. Not even magic should be able to bring a person back from death. Recently, though, Flarence saw a corpse not only rise but also fight. Endowed with incredible speed and strength, the revived man seeks revenge on his murderers.
To make matters worse, Darren (the third member of the Genie “family”) is still missing. He's been lying low, biding his time, but hasn’t forgotten about Officer Tymbir, and has every intention of settling their score. Darren, the revived corpse, and the man with the magic guns have a list of people to kill, and are eager to spill blood. With the help of Mohinaux and Claire, Soleil and Flarence rush to locate them, uncover the sources of their powers, and find a way to stop them.

Hugh Fritz is a fan of monsters, mad scientists, sorcerers, and anything that involves being with incredible powers beating each other senseless. After years of writing research papers, he decided it was time to give reality a rest and let his imagination run wild. This is his first book, and it has been an illuminating experience making the transition from reader to author.

He was born in Chicago where he spent most of his life until moving to the Southwest in 2015. He finds inspiration bouncing ideas off other novelists in a critique group, but hours of television and finding the right songs to put him in the writing mood play an important role as well. He has no plans to end the Genies' adventures here, so be on the lookout for more magical mischief in the next book of the Mystic Rampage series.
